Benzene is a known carcinogen. Short-term exposure may cause a variety of effects including nausea, vomiting, dizziness, narcosis, reduction in blood pressure, unconsciousness and even death. Skin contact may lead to dermatitis. Long term exposure may lead to irreversible effects such as increased risk of leukemia and other effects such as anemia. It is a sever eye irritant, respiratory tract irritant and skin irritant.
